Astral VX7 Salt Water Chlorinator
The Astral VX series has long been popular in the Australian market as it is one of the more established brands in the country. The Astral VX7 Salt Water Chlorinator is perfect for small to medium sized pools as it can handle pool sizes up to 50,000L. It has an LCD display and convenient buttons that you can use to navigate all of its settings.
Features of the Astral VX7 Salt Water Chlorinator
- Chlorine Output – 25 grams / hour
- Maximum Pool Volume – 50,000L for tropical climates (aka HOT) and up to 96,000L for temperate climates
- Salt Levels – 3,000 ppm to 8,000 ppm
- Recommended Salt Levels – 4,000 ppm
- Clock setting – 4 programmable timers
Notes: One of the things we didn’t like about the Astral VX7 was the label on the front. Since it was exposed to the elements, it tended to peel off and unless you memorized what all of the buttons do, you wouldn’t know which button does what. That’s also one of the reasons why we stocked Astral Chlorinator Front Panel Stickers to take care of this tiny problem.

Saltmate Salt Water Chlorinators
One of the things we love about the Saltmate Saltwater Chlorinator is that it’s locally made in Australia and it’s built like a tank. While it wins no points for sleekness and design, it wins when it comes to weather sealing and hardiness. When we said it was built like a tank, we weren’t kidding. It has a weather-sealed IP-34 rated metal casing that will ensure that it will survive the harsh Australian Summers. We also carry a range of replacement cells for the Saltmate so that you can keep your salt water pool sanitized the whole year round.
Features of the Saltmate Salt Water Chlorinator (SMT90)
- Chlorine Output – 23 grams / hour
- Maximum Pool Volume – 50,000 L (lower for hotter locations)
- Salt Levels – 3,000 ppm to 45,000 ppm
- Recommended Salt Levels – 4,000 ppm
Notes: Nothing much to be said for the Saltmate Sat Water Chlorinators, and that’s necessarily not a bad thing. It’s a no-frills approach to salt water chlorination and aside from the basic functions, it’s pretty much bulletproof.

The Zodiac LM3-24 was our pool salt water chlorinator of choice for the longest time, boasting of a self-cleaning function and a boost mode that allows you to increase chlorine production for a set period of time before going back to its regular mode. It has all the bells and whistles that you would ever want (or need) for a salt water chlorination system and you cannot go wrong with the LM3.
Features of the Zodiac LM3-24 Salt Water Chlorinator
- Chlorine Output – 24 grams / hour
- Maximum Pool Volume – 80,000 L for tropical climates and up to 120,000 for temperate climates

Our Recommendation
If you couldn't tell from above, our strong recommendation for pool salt water chlorinators would be the Water Technix Atomic Salt Water Chlorinator WTA35. They're on-par in terms of features and durability when compared with the other brands and they cost a fraction of the price. The WTA35 is more than enough for heavy pool days and can be dialled down to suit all pool sizes. Not only that, it's covered by Mr Pool Man's Ironclad guarantee!
