When to deep clean your filter

Deep clean every 3–4 months for most pools. More often during heavy use (summer parties, sunscreen-heavy seasons).

📋 Before you start — what you'll need

Supplies:

  • Filter Cleaning Solution (500g)
  • Bucket or plastic bin with lid
  • Garden hose with spray nozzle
  • Rubber gloves

Container size:

  • Standard: 20-litre bucket
  • Tall: 60-litre plastic bin
⚠️ SAFETY — important precautions

🧤 Wear gloves — solution can irritate skin. Rinse thoroughly if contact occurs.

🔒 Cover soak container — keep out of reach of children and pets. Use a lid or cover during soak.

💧 Never pour down stormwater drains — used solution can be poured onto grass or garden beds (diluted with water).

🔧 Troubleshooting — "What if…"

  • ❓ Filter still looks dirty after soak? → Cartridge may be worn out. Most cartridges last 2-3 years. Shop replacement cartridges →
  • ❓ Can I soak for less than 8 hours? → Minimum 4 hours, but 8-24 hours is recommended for best results. Overnight is ideal.
  • ❓ How many soaks per pack? → One 500g pack gives you 6-8 full soaks. Use approximately 60-80g per soak (standard cartridge).
  • ❓ My cartridge is really greasy/oily? → Add an extra 30g of solution and extend soak to 24 hours. Sunscreen and body oils need more time to break down.

💧 Filter Cleaning FAQs

How often should I deep clean my filter?

Deep clean every 3-4 months. Hose-rinse monthly between deep cleans. Replace cartridges every 2-3 years or when deep cleaning no longer restores flow.

Can I use this on sand or glass filters?

This product is formulated specifically for cartridge filters. For sand/glass filters, use a dedicated sand filter cleaner or replace the media every 3-5 years.

What's the difference between hosing and deep cleaning?

Hosing removes loose debris. Deep cleaning with solution dissolves oils, calcium scale, and microscopic buildup that hosing can't touch. Deep clean is essential 3-4 times per year.

How do I know when my cartridge needs replacing?

Signs: pressure stays high after cleaning, filter material looks frayed/split, or plastic end caps are cracked. Replace every 2-3 years or as needed.
