What Installation Actually Costs

Installation worry is the most common reason people pause before buying. Here is exactly what to expect.

🔧

Typical Install Cost

Most residential installs run $300 to $600 for plumbing and additional for electrical, depending on your equipment pad setup. For larger models (21kW and above), we recommend an electrical line check before purchasing.

📦

What's in the Box

The unit arrives fully assembled with installation fittings, a WiFi module, and a detailed manual. Your licensed electrician connects the power. A plumber or confident DIYer handles the water lines.

Paradise Range

Built for Australian Conditions

The Paradise uses a Mitsubishi inverter compressor, the same technology inside premium air conditioners. It captures heat from the ambient air instead of generating it, which is why running costs are so low.

🌡️

Total Climate Control

Set your target temperature from the LCD touchscreen or the WiFi app. The unit maintains it automatically, whether heating or chilling.

🔇

40dB Quiet Mode

At 40dB it is quieter than a library. You will not know it is running from inside the house, and neither will your neighbours.

🛡️

Built for Australian Weather

UV-resistant casing, anti-corrosion titanium heat exchanger, and R32 refrigerant rated for operation down to -15°C ambient air temperature.

💧

Works With Any Pool Chemistry

Compatible with chlorine, saltwater, mineral, and magnesium pools. No additional equipment or chemical adjustments needed.

Know Before You Buy

Heat Pump vs Every Alternative

Not every pool heater is the same technology. Here is how they compare on the things that matter.

Inverter Heat Pump

Heats to 40°C and chills to 8°C — the only pool appliance that does both
Runs on ~$500/yr — up to 80% less than gas
Works in any weather, including overcast and cool nights
WiFi app + smart scheduling so it is warm when you want it
Takes 24 to 48 hours to heat from cold — not instant
Best Overall Value

Gas Heater

Heats faster than any other method
Unaffected by ambient air temperature
Cannot chill — heating only
Running costs ~$2,500/yr — 5x more than a heat pump
Higher carbon footprint
For Rapid Occasional Heating

Electric Resistance

Lower purchase price
Compact — good for spas and very small pools
Cannot chill — heating only
Running costs ~$4,000/yr — the most expensive method
Struggles to heat larger pools effectively
For Spas Only

Solar Heater

Lowest running cost — uses free solar energy
Greenest option if you already have panels
Cannot chill — heating only
Only works when it is sunny — no overcast or night heating
Cannot reliably maintain a target temperature
Eco Supplement Only
5-Year Savings

The Unit Pays for Itself in About 18 Months

Annual running costs are one number. Total cost of ownership over five years is the number that tells the full story.

Heat Pump (5 years)
15kW Paradise Inverter
~$5,500

Unit cost ~$2,499 + running costs ~$500/yr x 5 yrs = $2,500 running total

You Save Over 5 Years
$8,500+

The unit pays for itself vs gas in roughly 18 months. After that, every year is $2,000 back in your pocket.

Gas Heater (5 years)
Comparable Gas Unit
~$14,000

Unit cost ~$1,500 + running costs ~$2,500/yr x 5 yrs = $12,500 running total

Based on a 40,000L pool in Sydney used through the extended season with a pool cover. Actual costs vary by usage, pool size, and local energy prices.

Annual Running Costs

What You Pay Every Year to Keep Swimming

Inverter Heat Pump

~$500

Low, consistent energy use for year-round heating. The inverter compressor modulates output rather than cycling on and off, which cuts electricity draw significantly.

Gas Heater

~$2,500

Fast and reliable, but natural gas prices make continuous use very expensive. Better suited to occasional or short-burst heating rather than regular swimming.

Electric Resistance

~$4,000

Generates heat by running electricity directly through a coil. Effective for spas or very small pools but prohibitively expensive for anything larger.

Estimates based on a 40,000L pool in Sydney, extended season, with a pool cover. Actual costs vary by usage and local energy tariffs.

Chill Mode

Your Pool as a Cold Plunge — From the Same Unit

The Paradise range cools as well as it heats. Dial down to 8°C in summer and use your pool for cold water therapy — something no gas or solar heater can offer.

Faster Muscle Recovery

Cold water immersion reduces post-exercise inflammation. 10 minutes at 12 to 15°C is enough to see measurable results.

Better Circulation

The cold-warm contrast causes blood vessels to expand and contract, improving cardiovascular efficiency over time.

Mental Clarity

A short cold immersion triggers a noradrenaline release. Athletes, executives, and health practitioners use it for focus and mood.

Cools Comfortably in Summer Too

On a 40°C day, chilling your pool to 22°C makes it more refreshing than swimming in a heated pool. Toggle between modes from the app.

What Aussie Pool Owners Actually Say

★★★★★

"We can use our pool every month of the year now. The noise level is genuinely hard to believe — it is quieter than our ducted air con. I checked our electricity bills for three months and we are paying about $40/month extra. For year-round swimming, that is nothing."

Sydney NSW · 15kW Paradise · 55,000L pool
Saving ~$1,800/yr vs previous gas heater
★★★★★

"I was worried about electricity costs but our bill barely shifted. The inverter technology really does what they say. The app control is great — I schedule it to hit 28°C by 5pm on weekdays. The kids are in it every day, even through June."

Mark D.
Brisbane QLD · 15kW Paradise · 48,000L pool
Running cost under $500/yr
★★★★★

"Melbourne winters meant our pool was sitting unused for five months. Not anymore. We have the 21kW model and it handles July no problem. We also use it as a cold plunge in January — drop it to 12°C and it is a totally different experience. Best thing we have put in the backyard."

Common Questions

Your Questions, Answered

Yes. The Paradise uses a reversible refrigerant cycle — the same principle as a reverse-cycle air conditioner. In heating mode it extracts heat from the air and transfers it to your pool water. In chilling mode it runs the cycle in reverse, drawing heat out of the water. You switch between modes from the app or the touchscreen. Target temperature is reached within 24 to 48 hours from a cold or warm starting point.
A gas heater burns fuel to generate heat, so every dollar of running cost is a dollar of gas consumed. A heat pump does not create heat — it moves it. The Mitsubishi inverter compressor captures heat energy from the ambient air (even at low temperatures) and concentrates it into your pool water. For every 1kW of electricity consumed, the Paradise generates up to 16kW of heating output. That is why the running costs are so much lower.
Initial heat-up from cold typically takes 24 to 72 hours depending on pool size, starting water temperature, air temperature, and whether you are using a pool cover. The 15kW model will raise a 50,000L pool by about 1°C per hour in mild conditions. Once at your target temperature, the inverter holds it efficiently with minimal energy use — it does not need to reheat from scratch every time.
The water-side plumbing (cutting in bypass valves, running pipe to and from the heat pump) can be handled by a confident DIYer or plumber. The electrical connection must be done by a licensed electrician — this is a legal requirement in all Australian states. Most installs run $300 to $600 total for a straightforward pad setup. We have a list of preferred installers if you need a referral.
Very little. The main task is keeping the evaporator coil clear of leaves and debris — a light hose-down every few months is enough. The unit should have 30cm of clear airflow around the intake. There are no filters to replace and no chemicals to add. Annual pool water balance checks matter more for the heat exchanger's longevity than anything on the unit itself.
The kW heating/cooling capacity figure tells you how much heat the unit can produce or remove per hour. A higher number means faster temperature change and the ability to maintain temperature in colder ambient conditions. The power input figure (also in kW) tells you how much electricity it draws to do that. A COP (Coefficient of Performance) of 16 means 1kW in gives you 16kW of heating — use the sizing calculator above to find your right model based on pool volume, location, and season.
COP stands for Coefficient of Performance. It is the ratio of heat output to electricity input. A COP of 16 means that for every 1kW of electricity consumed, the unit delivers 16kW of heating to your pool. This is why heat pumps are far cheaper to run than electric resistance heaters, which have a COP of 1 (one unit of electricity in, one unit of heat out). A higher COP means lower running costs. The Paradise's COP varies slightly with air temperature — it is highest on mild days and slightly lower when working in cold ambient conditions.
R32 is the current industry standard refrigerant for modern air conditioners and heat pumps, replacing older R410A. It has a Global Warming Potential (GWP) roughly one third of R410A, making it significantly more environmentally friendly. It is also more energy efficient, which contributes to the Paradise's low running costs. R32 is sealed inside the unit and poses no risk during normal operation. Any servicing involving the refrigerant circuit must be done by a licensed refrigerant technician.
