Watch Them Work

Summer heat is brutal on a pool. Watch how these cleaners handle the algae, sunscreen film, and daily debris that a hot Aussie summer throws at your water.

Hydro4 robotic pool cleaner navigating pool floor and walls

Smart Robotic Navigation

The Hydro4 intelligently maps and scrubs every inch of your pool floor and walls. No missed spots, no hoses to untangle, and no algae left behind to bloom again tomorrow.

Matrix suction cleaner climbing pool walls

Heavy-Duty Traction

The Matrix is built tough for concrete and tiled pools. Watch it climb walls and rip through the debris that other suction cleaners leave behind.

Viper suction cleaner silently cleaning pool

Silent and Efficient

The Viper glides quietly across the bottom, working away while you relax in the shade. An all-rounder that suits nearly every pool type and every summer.

Hot days mean fast algae. Do not fall behind.

When the mercury climbs past 30, algae can bloom in your pool within 24 to 48 hours. Sunscreen, sweat, and leaf litter feed it. If you are scrubbing by hand, you are already losing the race. A Water TechniX cleaner runs daily, scrubs the walls and floor, and pulls algae out before it takes hold. Set it, forget it, swim.

A Fair Comparison

Hydro vs a Budget Cordless Robot

Budget cordless robots are everywhere this time of year, usually around the $500 mark. Some are decent for the money. Here is where the Hydros are genuinely different, and what those differences look like in your backyard rather than on a spec sheet.

Three things you will feel

What the specs actually mean

Specs on their own do not sell a cleaner. What sells a cleaner is not having to skim the pool afterwards. Here is the translation.

Suction that lifts, not nudges

Around sixty percent more water through the filter every minute than a typical budget cordless robot. That is a big gap in raw pulling power.

In the backyard: it lifts heavy wet stuff like soaked gum leaves, bark, and sand instead of pushing it around. A cleaner that cannot lift a wet leaf leaves you out there with the skimmer, which is the exact job you bought a robot to avoid.

One cycle, done by breakfast

A full extra hour per charge. A typical budget unit runs for about 2.5 hours, then needs roughly 3 hours on the charger before it can go again.

In the backyard: if your pool needs more than one cycle, whether because it is bigger, it is a windy week, or it is after a storm, you start at 8am and you are still waiting at lunchtime. Ours does it in one go while you are having breakfast.

Two pumps, holding on and sucking

Dual 120W pumps, so 240W of motor driving the suction. Many budget robots do not publish a motor figure at all, and a brand that is proud of its motor publishes it.

In the backyard: walls and waterline. Enough grunt to hold on and keep sucking at the same time, instead of losing grip halfway up and sliding back down.

Credit where it is due

A $500 cordless robot with app control, walls and waterline, and about 150 minutes of runtime is a decent unit for the money. If you want a cleaner and that is the whole brief, it is a reasonable buy while stocks last.

The straight version

A budget robot is a good buy if you want a cleaner. Ours is the better buy if you want one that is still running in three years, with parts on a shelf, someone to ring, and a warranty that actually covers the bits that wear out.

If the cheapest thing that moves is all you want, a budget robot is fine. But if you want a cleaner that is still going in three years with support behind it, that is what we do.

Buyer's Guide

Robotic vs Suction: Which is Right for You?

Both types are excellent. The best choice comes down to your pool, your budget, and how hands-off you want to be during the hottest months of the year.

Get one sorted now and it will be scrubbing your pool daily while everyone else is still on the waitlist for stock.

Robotic Pool Cleaners

The set-and-forget solution. A robotic cleaner runs independently, completely separate from your pool's pump and filter. Intelligent navigation, superior scrubbing, and zero effort from you while the summer sun does its worst.

Superior cleaning: actively scrubs floors, walls, and waterline
Energy efficient: runs on low-voltage power, not your pool pump
Independent: does not add wear to your pump or filtration
Higher upfront cost: a premium investment for a premium result

Suction Pool Cleaners

The reliable workhorse. A suction cleaner connects to your skimmer box and uses your existing pump's suction to move around and vacuum up debris. Simple, proven, and affordable, which is exactly what a lot of pool owners want in the middle of summer.

Cost-effective: lower price point with fewer complex parts
Simple and reliable: proven technology that just works
Easy maintenance: straightforward to clean and service
Uses pool pump: relies on your filtration system to operate

FAQ

Your Questions, Answered

Order now. Once the mercury hits the high 30s, algae can take over a pool in under 48 hours and once it gets a foothold, you are looking at a shock, a brush, and a few days of filtration before it clears. A cleaner running daily keeps on top of it before that happens. Order now and you have it set up and working the same week.

Hydro4 HX1: 3 years on the body, electronics and cable. 2 years on the drive and pump motors. 12 months on consumables.

Hydro 3S: 2 years on the body and motors. 12 months on consumables.

Consumables are the wear items such as brushes, filters, and similar. These are covered for the shorter period on both models. If you are unsure whether something is covered, ring us before you buy and we will tell you straight.

A $500 cordless robot with app control, walls and waterline, and about 150 minutes of runtime is a decent unit for the money. If you want a cleaner and that is the whole brief, it is a reasonable buy while stocks last. The Hydros are the better buy if you want one that is still running in three years, with more suction for heavy wet debris, a full extra hour per charge so a big pool or a windy week does not leave you waiting until lunchtime, and dual pumps that hold the walls and waterline while still sucking. And if something goes wrong, we stock the parts, we answer the phone, and we have got a warranty that covers the bits that actually wear out. If the cheapest thing that moves is all you want, that is fine. If you want support behind it in 14 months time, that is what we do.

It is the same Hydro4 cleaner. We have given it a new blue colourway for the summer season. The internals, the navigation, the warranty, and the performance are identical. We are still updating our ad imagery so you may see both colours floating around for a little while. If you receive a blue one, that is the current model.

A robotic pool cleaner is a self-contained unit with its own motor, filtration, and navigation. It runs independently of your pool pump and is plugged into a standard power outlet. A suction pool cleaner connects to your skimmer box and is powered entirely by your existing pool pump's suction. Robotic cleaners offer superior cleaning and convenience. Suction cleaners are simpler, more affordable, and equally reliable for most pools, which is a big deal when you are running the pump more hours a day in summer anyway.

Yes. All Water TechniX cleaners are designed to be safe and effective on all common Australian pool surfaces including vinyl liners, fibreglass, pebblecrete, and tiles. The Viper is particularly popular with fibreglass and vinyl pool owners for its gentle yet thorough cleaning action.

In summer, we recommend running your cleaner daily. Heat accelerates algae growth, and more swimming means more sunscreen, sweat, and debris going into the water every single day. A daily cycle keeps the floor and walls scrubbed, keeps the water clearer, and takes pressure off your sanitiser. Robotic cleaners are efficient enough to run every day without blowing out your electricity bill. If you have a suction cleaner, running it during your normal pump hours does the same job.

It is best practice to remove your robotic cleaner after each cleaning cycle. Constant exposure to pool chemicals and strong summer UV will degrade the plastic housing, seals, and filters over time. Removing the robot, giving it a quick rinse with fresh water, and storing it in the shade will significantly extend its lifespan. Suction cleaners can generally stay in the pool as they are part of the circulation system.

Advanced robotic cleaners like the Hydro4 can climb walls and handle some pool steps and benches. Due to the sharp angles and varying depths of pool stairs, no cleaner gets every inch of every step. A good habit is to give your steps a quick brush before your robot's cleaning cycle so the debris falls to the floor where the robot can pick it up.

Yes, but you may need to adjust the speed. Variable speed pumps on their lowest energy-saving setting may not generate enough suction for the cleaner to climb walls effectively. You will need to find the right RPM that gives the cleaner enough power while still being energy efficient. Most pool owners find a mid-range speed works well.

Robotic cleaners do an excellent job of scrubbing, but they cannot reach every narrow crevice or tight corner. A quick brush of the walls once a week or fortnight helps loosen algae spores and fine dust that cling to surfaces, allowing your robot or filter to deal with them on the next cycle. It only takes a few minutes and makes a noticeable difference, especially in the middle of summer when algae is growing fastest.

Modern cleaners have built-in anti-stuck technology and programmed reverse cycles to free themselves from most situations. Ladders and unusual pool shapes can occasionally be an issue. For suction cleaners, adjusting the hose length or the deflector wheel usually fixes the problem. For robots, check that the cable is not tangled or too short for your pool. If it happens repeatedly, contact our support team and we will help troubleshoot.

The Water TechniX Matrix is our top pick for concrete and pebblecrete pools. Its heavy-duty build and aggressive traction handles rough surfaces that wear out lesser cleaners quickly. If you prefer a robotic option for a concrete pool, the Hydro4 is excellent. Its scrubbing brushes are designed to handle textured surfaces without issue.

With proper care, Water TechniX pool cleaners typically last 5 to 8 years or more. Both Hydro models carry the warranty periods listed above, 3 years on Hydro4's body, electronics and cable, 2 years on Hydro 3S's body and motors, with consumables covered for 12 months on both. To maximise lifespan, rinse your cleaner with fresh water after each use, store it out of direct sunlight, clean the filter basket regularly, and maintain balanced water chemistry to prevent chemical degradation of the seals and body.
