Black Spot Algae Forever

🔬 What is black spot algae?
Black spot is a stubborn, chlorine-resistant algae that roots deeply into pool surfaces. It appears as small black or dark green spots that feel rough to the touch. Standard algaecides and shocking won't remove it — you need a targeted treatment.

🔧 Troubleshooting — "What if…"
- ❓ Spots aren't gone after 48 hours? → Apply a second treatment. Brush affected areas again before re-applying. Heavier infestations may need two rounds 7 days apart.
- ❓ I have a vinyl pool and applied directly to spots — what now? → Rinse immediately with water. If bleaching has occurred, contact our support team for advice. Always use the skimmer method for vinyl in future.
- ❓ Black spot keeps coming back? → Check your phosphate levels. High phosphates feed black spot. Also ensure your filter is clean and running effectively. Low chlorine and poor circulation are common root causes.
- ❓ Can I swim before 48 hours? → No. Wait the full 48 hours and test water chemistry (chlorine 2–4 ppm, pH 7.2–7.6) before swimming.
⚫ Black Spot FAQs
Black spot returns when underlying conditions aren't fixed: high phosphates, low chlorine, poor circulation, or dirty filters. After treatment, maintain chlorine at 2-4 ppm, run pump daily, and test phosphate levels regularly.
When used correctly — spot-treatment for concrete/pebble, skimmer method for vinyl/fibreglass — it won't stain. Direct application on vinyl or fibreglass can cause bleaching. Always follow the surface-specific method shown above.
Dead algae turns grey/white within 24-48 hours. Brush away dead spots and vacuum to waste. Stubborn infestations may need a second application 7 days later.
Yes, Black Spot Remover works in all pool types including salt, chlorine, and magnesium pools. The application method depends on your surface type, not your sanitation system.
After dead algae is brushed and vacuumed, a standard shock treatment helps oxidise remaining organic matter and restore chlorine levels. Wait until dead algae is removed before shocking.
